Care & Maintenance

Bamboo & Engineered Timber Flooring

  • Bamboo & engineered timber floors should be mopped with a well rung out damp mop only. Never subject bamboo or engineered floors to excessive moisture. Spills should be mopped up when they occur and any leaks must be attended to immediately. Excessive moisture will adversely affect the flooring.
  • Steam mops are not recommended on engineered or bamboo floors. This may void any manufacturer’s warranty. Also this may cause damage to certain types of coatings.
  • For regular cleaning of domestic floors an antistatic mop provides an effective means of collecting dust and grit.
  • If a vacuum is used, then the condition of the brushes should be regularly checked or we recommend purchasing a hard floor attachment.
  • Never use cleaning products containing silicon, oil, harsh chemicals or abrasives.
  • Apply felt pads to the base of all furniture to avoid excessive scratching.
  • Place mats at all entrances, externally, to collect dirt and grit.
  • On hot days, close window furnishings to minimize intense heat from UV exposure to your bamboo or engineered floors.
  • Rugs with rubber backing should never be used as resin will leach from the rubber and discolour or stain the applied coating.
  • Never slide or roll furniture or appliances across the floor as this may scratch the coating. Always lift and place heavy items.

Engineered Cork & Laminate flooring

  • A timber, cork or laminate floor should be mopped with a well rung out damp mop only. Never subject these floor coverings to excessive moisture. Spills should be mopped up when they occur and any leaks must be attended to immediately. Excessive moisture will adversely affect the flooring.

  • Steam mops are not recommended on any timber, laminate or cork floors. Use of a steam mop may void any manufacturers warranty. Steam mop use may also cause damage to certain types of coatings.
  • Place mats at all entrances, externally, to collect dirt and grit. Never allow dirt and grit to accumulate under or around these mats.
  • Never use cleaning products containing silicon, oil, harsh chemicals or abrasives.
  • On hot days, close window furnishings to minimize intense heat from UV exposure to your timber/cork/laminate floor.
  • It is recommended that rugs are not laid until after the floor finish has fully hardened. Be aware that when rugs are removed from the floor at a later time, a shadow may be visible as a result of the coating absorbing UV light at a different rate to the covered area, partially with polyurethane coatings. (Not relevant to laminate flooring).
  • Rugs with rubber backing should never be used as resin can leach from the rubber and dis-colour or stain the applied coating.
  • Re-coating requirements are difficult to determine. As a general rule, coating should not be allowed to deteriorate to a level where it has worn away to bare timber or cork (not applicable to laminate flooring).

Carpet

  • Loop pile carpets are produced in rows from continuous lengths of yarn. If a row is pulled, this will cause a ‘run’ in the carpet. Any loose ends should be napped off immediately with sharp scissors.
  • We recommend using a professional steam cleaning company to refresh the carpet in your house every 12-18 months. We do not recommend doing it yourself. This should be done ideally in warmer weather in order for the carpet to dry quicker or more effectively.
  • Regular vacuuming, particularly in high traffic areas, will help maintain the quality and appearance. Turn off the power brush (if applicable) when vacuuming loop pile, cut pile or Berber carpets.
  • Do not use any cleaning products which have bleach as an ingredient as it will permanently discolour the pile and damage the carpet. Generally, we recommend only using warm water to try removing stains by pressing tge dry cloth to mop up the liquid, whilst being sure to attend to stain as quickly as possible after the incident. If this does not help see the links below.
  • For specific spills, we recommend utilising the following website links to find accurate instructions on what to use to clean specific spills.
